Description
The lighthouse at New York's Famed Fire Island. The first Fire Island lighthouse was built in 1826, but the current tower was constructed in 1857. This tower is two football fields away from the site of the original. The light can be visited daily with ample parking at the Robert Moses State Park. Visitors should be forewarned however about the signs warning visitors of the clothing optional beaches adjacent to the light. The tower is 168 feet tall and is constructed of hand made brick. The flaring construction of the base adds stability to the entire tower.
