Artist's Description

FENWICK ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE
Atlantic Ocean
Fenwick Island, Delaware

The Fenwick Island lighthouse, built in 1858, was designed to bridge the gap between the lights at Assateague Island, Virginia and Cape Henlopen, Delaware. During certain weather conditions, ships entering the two bays, Chesapeake and Delaware needed a sentinel in the dark area between the two points.

The light built on Fenwick Island is literally on the Mason-Dixon Line dividing north and south. Lit in 1858, a third-order Fresnel lens placed 83 feet above sea level could be viewed over fifteen miles at sea. The light, now in a trailer park is still in use and can be seen daily. The tower is still painted the original white color.

I have visited and photographed two thirds of all the lighthouses on the east coast, and probably have the image of your favorite. Just ask! I have also written a number of articles published by regional magazines in both Maryland and New Jersey. I sell and lease images to publishers. I have wall art appropriate for both the wholesale and retail levels. I welcome any and...
