Description
There are two lighthouses around Rockland, Maine. Owl's head is on the land to the left and in the distance of this image and the other is Rockland Breakwater lighthouse shown here. The breakwater was completed in 1902 and required some 200,000 tons of granite. The demensions are 43 feet wide at the top, 175 feet on the bottom and 65 feet high. The lighthouse is on the end of the breakwater and is quite an attractive building. The trick here is walking out to the light from shore. With every step the lighthouse seems to get further away, it's that long a walk. In this image I was lucky to get a single person (perhaps the ghost of the first keeper) at the end of the walk.
