Description
OLD ORCHARD SHOAL FRONT LIGHTHOUSE
Raritan Bay, New Jersey
This lighthouse was completely obliterated during the super storm "Sandy" in the fall of 2012. All that remains is the rip rap upon which it stood. This caisson marks the way through Princess Bay in the Raritan bay area. The caisson is quite similar to the other lighthouses in the body of water and is used to pair with the rear New Waackaack rear light. The latter is a skeleton steel tower. Old orchard was constructed in 1893 and is cast iron. The original optic was a fourth order Fresnel.
