Description
Fog----Rocky Coast------Lighthouses, it must be New England. This lighthouse has all of the above. This light was built to protect Scituate Harbor in 1810 and lit in 1811. The interesting history surrounding this light has to do with the two daughters of keeper Simon Bates. The daughters were Abigail and Rebecca. During the War of 1812 the young daughters of the keeper prevented a British naval force from sacking the town by playing a fife and beating a drum. Evidently this Army of Two induced such fear in the British and convinced them that there was indeed an army of resistance lying in wait, and thus saved the town.
