Description
This is the Sharps Island lighthouse offshore of Tilghman Island in the Chesapeake bay. The light was built in 1882 at the mouth of the famed Choptank River. Sometime in the 1970's a section of the bottom upon which the light rests gave way and the light tilted. They got it upright and thought that it had been repaired, but alas that was only wishful thinking and it sank once more. The light was then allowed to remain on a tilt, which offers a very unique day mark today. One surely knows one's location when approaching this old lighthouse.
