Description
JONES POINT LIGHTHOUSE
Potomac River
Washington, DC
This cottage like structure is literally under the Woodrow Wilson Bridge over the Potomac just south of DC. It is in a park like setting and only a short walk from the parking area. Built in 1855 to guide shipping into Alexandria, Georgetown, and Washington, the light originally sported a fifth-order fresnel lens. The light became useless in the early 1900’s when the river channel shifted.
