SHIP JOHN SHOAL LIGHTHOUSE
IN NEW JERSEY
DELAWARE BAY SOUTHWEST OF SEA BREEZE NJ
Originally a screw pile design was scheduled to be built on this shoal which was named after the ship “John” that sank there in 1797. However, numerous disasters with that design caused a change in plans and the current caisson was built in 1877.
Visitors need to find a boat either on the Jersey or Delaware side of the bay to view this classic lighthouse.
