Two lights that guard the harbor around Lewes, Delaware and marking the southern entrance to the Delaware bay. Located off shore of Cape Henlopen these lights can be viewed from the ramparts of the Cape itself at the Cape Henlopen State Park. The view is a rather long distant one. Renting a boat in Lewes or taking the ferry from that port to Cape May, New Jersey will offer a closer view of this sentinel.
Both lights can be viewed from shore at Cape Henlopen just outside of Lewes, DE. A short boat ride from Lewes will provide a closer look at these caisson type lights, and they can also be seen fleetingly from the Lewes/Cape May Ferry.
Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse, is painted white and is a four story keeper’s house placed upon a steel caisson, which in turn rests upon a rip rap wall. This house flashes a white light.
